Kushesh Express, achieving rapid growth in a competitive environment

Kushesh loosely translates to “very quick” and is a fitting name for courier company Kushesh Trading, which services the distribution needs of the medical and pharmaceutical industry. Its passion and pride for the quality of service that it provides has helped it become one of the fastest-growing courier companies in South Africa.

Kushesh Express is managed by husband-and-wife team, Ashley and Tania Mulligan. Ashley says the company values and jealously guards its reputation of always delivering on its promises.

Armed with this winning attitude, they worked with Aurik and built out a customised growth action plan, which was where the real story of its business success began. It was during this time that they also experienced a radical shift in their mindset regarding building their business.

Tania says they experienced an important moment of clarity. “The mindshift came when we attended the talk about building a business that is an Asset of Value – a business that is systems-oriented.” Ashley affirms this saying that the Action Plan helped to identify problems in the company's structure and systems and helped them to find solutions. It also enabled them to develop a broader outlook on strategy to be able to scale for growth.

Kushesh has since notched up success after success in a competitive industry. Having doubled in size for successive years. The business is being awarded for its excellent service and superior client experience with increasing number of contracts, and they are now even competing against much larger, multinational companies. Even in a depressed economy, Kushesh continues to grow in size and expand its footprint.

It's about the customer

The business owners attribute the company's success to customer satisfaction and its business philosophy of “my customer’s customer is my customer”. The growth of their business is dependent on every business in their supply chain giving their customers what they want. Aurik also helped us focus and specialise in our niche of medical equipment deliveries. We excel at this today and our business systems, staff and fleet are geared to make us the best in this space” Ashley went on to say.

And their plan for growth is certainly working. Kushesh began as a company of just four employees and one branch in Johannesburg. It now boasts more than 40 employees with branches in Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town. And Ashley and Tania are not stopping there – they have plans to expand and grow even further, we have no doubt in our minds that Kushesh will become one of the biggest and best-known brands in its space.
